Philadelphia Fun and American History

Philadelphia One Liberty Observation DeckPhiladelphia is famous for the historic events that led to the forming of the United States of America. This is where the founding fathers declared independence and later signed the constitution.  Many visitors come here to relive those momentous events and walk in the footsteps of giants.

But Philly is much more than a window on the past. Today’s Philadelphia offers a lot of food, culture and entertainment. A visit to this city is not complete without trying the variety of Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, visiting a museum or catching a symphonic performance.

Dig This Las Vegas

null I heard about this place from a friend and at first, I was reluctant to go. Do I really want to go play in the dirt again?

It turned out that I actually do. It was great fun to learn how to operate a huge excavator and proceed to dig a big hole in the ground.

We started with instructions at the office. The staff were very friendly and informative. Once everyone learned the dos and don’ts we headed out to the big dirt field and mounted our excavators. Once we were in, we received additional hands-on instructions through radio headsets.

Vegas Indoor Skydiving

nullI have wanted to try this adventure for a while now but was always hesitant. I was worried that it would be a waste if time or it might be too difficult – always finding an excuse.

I finally went for it in May 2013 with my daughter and we were very glad we did. It is a very thrilling experience that simulates skydiving. The jump takes place inside a closed chamber with a huge propeller in the ground. The propeller creates a strong vertical wind – like a wind tunnel. The skydivers jump into the wind – facing down and the wind pushes them up. But before you can accomplish your skydive you need instructions, equipment and practice.

Las Vegas On a Budget

nullIt is hard to believe that you can have fun in Vegas without spending a lot of money, but it is very possible. Here you will find a partial list of the places that offer free or inexpensive entertainment. This is going to be a live list. Please feel free to use the comments area – or start your own post – to propose new places or provide additional information.

Just start walking from your hotel on the strip and go in any direction. You will be amazed at the sights and sounds. As you walk you will pass the major resorts on both sides of the road. I am starting from Mandalay Bay because it is the southernmost end of the Strip, but you can start from any location.

Family Fun Centers

Bommers, Irvine - Bumper BoatsTake a tour of Southern California's best family fun centers. Those fun centers are usually full of go-kart racing, arcade games, laster tag and other thrilling rides. Some will have some water rides and most will have minitaure golf.

There is something for everyone in the family.

Boomers Fun Center

Bommers, Irvine - Go-kartsBoomers is a family fun center in the city of Irvine and offers rides and games for the whole family. It ismainly geared towards children up to age 16, but older teens and adults can find a few rides and games to enjoy.

During our last visit we spent several hours playing golf, racing cars and trying to win a laser gun battle.

The park has 2 go-kart race tracks - one for small children and the other one is for all ages. The main track is a good length and has many curves and sharp turns. The go-karts are mainly in good condition. The speed is just right for this type of track but some of the karts would hesitate at sharp turns and then pick up speed.

Pirates Dinner Adventure

We started by posing for a photo op behind the helm of a ship. You can pick some props from a basket – mainly different style captain and pirate hats - and be as serious or as silly as you like. You get to see the result at your table and decide whether to buy it – no pressure. The main reception hall is large and it has 2 bars and a gift shop. While you wait, you are served appetizers (included in the admission price).

Once inside, you will come face to face with a huge replica of an 18th-century Spanish galleon anchored in a 250,000-gallon indoor lagoon. The seats are arranged stadium-style around this stage, so everyone can have a good view of the action.
