A Springtime Escape
Exploring Boston is easy and enjoyable with the City View Hop-On Hop-Off Trolley, which connects visitors to the city's most iconic locations. We met the trolley at Marriott Long Wharf, a perfect starting point near the bustling waterfront.
A Ride Through Boston’s Historic Core
The City View Trolley makes stops at nine important sites throughout the city, allowing travelers to hop on and off at their own pace. Although we had already explored several historic sites on foot earlier in our trip, we decided to ride the trolley to Boston Common and the Public Garden, two of Boston’s most beloved green spaces.
A Walk Among Blossoms and History
Stepping off the trolley, we entered the Public Garden, America's first public botanical garden, established in 1837. The park was bursting with life—families, couples, and visitors all enjoying the warmth of a spring day. Cherry blossoms framed the iconic footbridge, and swan boats glided peacefully across the pond, creating a postcard-perfect scene.
Did you know? The first known apple orchard in the United States was planted by William Blackstone in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1625. The orchard was situated on what is now Boston Common, and it is considered a significant part of early American history.
Just across the street, Boston Common—the oldest public park in the United States—offered a lively contrast. Street performers entertained crowds, food vendors served up local snacks, and locals relaxed under the wide, shady trees. It was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and soak in the city's vibrant spirit.
Travel Tip: If you're visiting in spring, plan a morning at the Public Garden to see the cherry blossoms at their peak and enjoy a ride on the swan boats before the crowds arrive.
Did You Know? Boston Common dates back to 1634 and was originally used as a grazing pasture for livestock.
Enjoy the Frog Pond
Located in the heart of Boston Common, the Frog Pond is a lively spot that changes with the seasons. In the warmer months, it becomes a bustling wading pool where children can splash and play, offering a perfect way for families to cool off during a day of sightseeing.
Come winter, the pond transforms into one of Boston’s most popular outdoor ice-skating rinks, complete with twinkling lights and a festive atmosphere. Whether you're visiting in the heat of summer or the chill of winter, the Frog Pond adds a fun, family-friendly touch to any Boston itinerary.
