Skywalk, Grand Canyon West

Grand Canyon WestMany years ago, I went on a Grand Canyon West airplane tour. After enjoying great views from above, the plane landed on the west rim, and we disembarked for breathtaking views of the deep canyons.

Fast forward to 2020, I decide to relive this experience with my family but was surprised with a totally different place.

Instead of the pristine Grand Canyon experience, we were herded through a large gift shop/visitor center, bus ride to rim locations, and wnt on the glass-bottom Skywalk.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica Pier - by Matthew Field - WikipediaWhen I think about Santa Monica, I usually remember the boardwalk at the Pier with all the rides and the food vendors. But this beach town has so much more to offer.
Santa Monica is also famous for the long stretches of beach, great parks, an Aquarium, and the Museum of Flying.

The Santa Monica Pier is a large double-jointed pier at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California. It contains a small amusement park, concession stands, and areas for viewing and fishing.

Pacific Park is the only amusement park in the west located on a pier. Entry to the park area is free, but you need to buy tickets to enjoy the rides.

VR Universe, Buena Park

VR Universe, Buena Park - cagesThe Source at Buena park is four-story shopping, dining, and entertainment complex.

It is mainly geared towards the Asian population of Orange County, with Korean, Chinese, and Japanese stores and restaurants, but it is becoming more international with American, Italian, and Mexican choices.

If you have a couple of hours to kill while at the source, head to VR Universe on the third floor for some mindless fun.

Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt

Egypt - Sharm El-Sheikh - Relaxing at the beachAfter our exciting Cairo and Ancient Egypt exploration, we looked forward to relaxing on the crystal-clear waters of Sharm El Sheikh. This red sea resort is a stark change from the bustling Egyptian cities and archeological sites.

The city had the feel of a California beach town, with its modern resorts and open-air malls – with a few Middle Eastern features like Mosques.

Interesting fact: Egypt is mainly in North Africa, but Sharm El Sheikh is in Asia.

While at Sharm El Sheikh, we spent some time at the beach, toured the old city and two modern malls, enjoyed an Egyptian dinner, and went on a submarine cruise to enjoy the coral reefs and marine life.

At night we enjoyed the 1001 Nights dinner and show, which was spectacular. Imagine a Las Vegas Cirque De Soleil show with a Middle Eastern theme.

Carlsbad anaheimer

Carlsbad Flower FieldsHome to Legoland, the flower fields, a waterpark, an Aquarium and beautiful beaches, this sleepy little beach town is becoming a major tourist attraction in Southern California.

Carlsbad sits between Oceanside and San Diego with a long stretch of beaches, several creeks and lagoons, making it a perfect spot for a weekend getaway or a rest stop on a long journey.

Most families with children flock to Carlsbad to spend a day or two at Legoland. The theme park is filled with rides and experiences based on the popular Lego toy brand. And if a park full of thrills is not enough, you can go next door to the new Water Park and Sealife Aquarium.
