Tip: If you have small children but do not want to miss out on the thrilling rides outside Fantasyland (like Matterhorn Bobsleds), utilize the Rider Switch service. This allows one adult to wait with the non-rider while the rest of the party rides, then switch places without waiting in the full queue again. Read more here.
The Fantasyland Dark Rides
Fantasyland is famous for its collection of dark rides: gentle indoor journeys through the scenes of classic animated films. While these rides have lower capacity and often build long lines early in the day, they are essential to the Disneyland experience.
It’s a Small World
This timeless attraction never fails to delight with its cheerful depiction of global harmony. Guests of all ages enjoy a leisurely boat ride through various international scenes, accompanied by the iconic song celebrating global unity. During the holiday season, the ride is transformed with the "It's a Small World Holiday" overlay.
This attraction is available via the Lightning Lane service (part of Genie+).
Interesting Fact: The "It's a Small World" attraction was originally created for the 1964-65 New York World's Fair as a tribute to children around the world and was later permanently moved to Disneyland.
Peter Pan's Flight
Join Peter Pan on a magical flight from London, soaring high over the city and into Neverland, encountering mermaids, pirates, and the infamous Captain Hook. This beloved ride is a staple of Fantasyland, capturing hearts with its enchanting storyline and unique flight simulation, in which the ride vehicles hang from the ceiling.
Traveler Tip: Peter Pan's Flight is notorious for having some of the longest wait times in Fantasyland due to its slow loading speed. Consider making it your first ride of the day or using the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass service to secure a reservation.
Snow White's Enchanted Wish
This updated dark ride takes guests through the classic story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Unlike its darker predecessor, this version is brightly lit and focuses on the journey's most charming and celebratory moments, culminating in Snow White's happy ending. It is a beautiful, classic experience for all ages.
Pinocchio's Daring Journey
This attraction follows the title character as he tries to prove himself worthy of becoming a real boy. Guests ride in ornate wooden carts through scenes from the movie, from Pleasure Island to the inside of Monstro the whale. It is a nostalgic and slightly bumpy journey that showcases the detailed artistry of the classic Disney dark rides.
Thrills, Whimsy, and Exploration
Matterhorn Bobsleds (Thrill Ride)
Update: The Matterhorn Bobsleds was closed for a months-long refurbishment in early 2025 but successfully reopened in July 2025. Guests can once again hurtle through the snow-capped mountain on a speeding alpine sled, bracing against howling winds while dodging the clutches of the legendary Abominable Snowman.
This attraction is a highly intense, jerky roller coaster with two separate tracks (one on the Fantasyland side and one on the Tomorrowland side). It is the park's first-ever roller coaster and a true icon. It offers a single-rider line to help reduce wait times.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
This gentle spinner ride offers children and the young at heart the chance to soar through the sky aboard Dumbo. Riders control how high they fly with a small lever, delivering a personalized, whimsical experience with beautiful views of Fantasyland.
Interesting Fact: Dumbo the Flying Elephant was one of Disneyland's original opening day attractions in 1955. It remains a timeless symbol of the park's whimsical spirit.
Storybook Land Canal Boats
This peaceful boat ride takes guests through miniature versions of classic Disney settings, including the homes of the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella's Castle. Update: The ride recently completed a refurbishment (November 2025), which included the addition of a charming new scene featuring Rapunzel's Tower from the film Tangled. This ride, along with the adjacent Casey Jr. Circus Train, is perfect for smaller children.
Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter Tea Party
Immerse yourself in the whimsical world of Wonderland with two distinct attractions. Alice in Wonderland is a charming, multi-level dark ride that transports you through the fantastical adventures of Alice. The Mad Hatter Tea Party is a classic "teacup" spinner where you control the speed of your cup.
Traveler Tip: The Mad Hatter Tea Party is best enjoyed after dark when the lanterns light up and create a dizzying, magical atmosphere with vibrant colors.
Castle and Princess Experiences
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough
Instead of riding through the castle, guests can walk inside for a self-guided tour of the story of Princess Aurora. The walkthrough features beautiful dioramas and immersive environments that tell the tale of Sleeping Beauty. It is often less crowded than the rides and provides a relaxing moment of historical Disney magic.
Fun Fact: Sleeping Beauty Castle utilizes a technique called "forced perspective" where bricks and architectural details are made smaller as they go up the tower, making the 77-foot-tall structure appear much taller than it actually is.
Fantasy Faire and Royal Hall
Located next to the castle, Fantasy Faire is a dedicated village where guests can meet and interact with Disney Princesses in the Royal Hall. This area also hosts the Royal Theatre, featuring lively storytelling performances of classic Disney tales.
Dining in Fantasyland
While Fantasyland is primarily focused on attractions, it still offers unique dining options perfect for a mid-day meal or quick refueling.
Red Rose Tavern
This quick-service eatery is themed to the village tavern from Beauty and the Beast. It serves American classics, including burgers and chicken sandwiches, as well as unique, themed desserts. The atmosphere is charming, with ornate decorations and a cozy fireplace.
Other Dining Options
Troubadour Tavern: This small seasonal stand near the Fantasyland Theatre offers savory and sweet medieval-inspired fare, such as bratwurst and pretzels.
Small World Pretzel Cart & Fantasyland Fruit Cart: For lighter meals or quick snacks, various carts around Fantasyland offer refreshments to keep you fueled for adventure, including pretzels, churros, and fresh fruit.

User Comment (Source: Reddit): "If you are visiting Fantasyland with older kids or as an adult, the crowds thin out quickly after 5 PM. It becomes much easier to hop on all the dark rides, and they look 100% better when lit up at night. Peter Pan was a 5-minute wait at 8 PM for us!"
